Improv for Families

Featured Workshop: Saturday, June 28, 2025, 1-3:30pm
Push Comedy Theater, 763 Granby Street, Norfolk, VA

Is Improv as fun as it looks? YES!

And... the Improv for Families workshops are a great way to get your first taste of the fun.

Push Comedy Theater and Family in Focus® are dedicated to sharing the ideas, spirit and skill-building tools of improv with all of the 757. Our family workshops are high-fun, low-stress classes designed to show you how YOU can create spontaneous, off-the-cuff scenes and relationships that directly apply to your off-stage lives.

Our enthusiastic and friendly instructors work to make sure everyone is able to participate in a playful and trusting atmosphere.

One registration fee per family - just list the names/ages of family members who will be joining for an accurate count

Space is limited at the theater, so we need to account for each and every friend who will be coming

What you'll get:

  • Family Admission to the Improv for Families workshop on Saturday, June 28 at 1pm EDT.
  • This 2.5 hour workshop is specifically created for families of children aged 5-12 (all ages welcome) who want to embrace who they are and improve relationships through communication (and fun). The focus will be on the kids, and the parents are a key part of the fun!
  • Parents must stay during the class.
  • This is a family-centered class, which means it is G-rated (because, kids). If it can't be heard and said by your 2 year old or 98 year old grandmom in a church, perhaps they want to stay home. No R tolerated, no hatred, no "blue" humor and no pumping yourself up by putting others down. 'Nough about that.
  • Hosted by Wendy Schofer, MD - fun-loving pediatrician, improv comedian and social-skills whisperer for the whole family.
  • There's a magic in comedy: it's not performing, it's exploration. We will play with emotions and relationships in non-icky ways!
  • Fun, play, connection and... find out how improv is supporting the health & relationships of your whole family.

Disclaimer: So that thing about Wendy being an MD. Yeah, she is a pediatrician who gets kids, families and the awesomeness of being unique humans. And here, she's just known as Wendy. That's because while Wendy and Family in Focus® discuss mental, emotional and physical health, this is for educational & entertainment purposes only. This is not medical care and does not replace the important relationship you have with your physician. Please continue your regular care and tell your doc to come out and play with Family in Focus®!
