A Family in Focus mini-guide

Improv at Home

Three rules from the stage that work at your kitchen table. Bring snacks.

Here's a secret nobody tells you in parenting books: comedians have been quietly running the playbook you need at home for decades.

I'm a pediatrician. I've been practicing improv comedy for years. And every single thing I do with families, with food, with feelings, with the messy beautiful chaos of being a human raising other humans, I quietly stole off of the stage.

So here you go. Three rules. Use them on your kid. Use them on your partner. Use them on yourself when you're being a jerk to yourself in the mirror.

Send me the mini-guide.

Drop your name and email and I'll send Improv at Home straight to your inbox.

No spam, no shame. Just one heck of a download and the occasional note from me.

What's inside

Three rules. Real change at home.

A short, sass-forward mini-guide you can read in fifteen minutes and start using tonight.

1

Always make your partner look good.

Your kid is your scene partner. So is your adult partner. So is the tired version of yourself who walked in the door at 6:47pm with nothing left to give.

2

Yes, and. (Plus my ABC twist.)

Acknowledge. Build on it. Connect. You can't shame anyone into change. You can't lecture anyone into trust. You can connect with them.

3

Take a beat.

A beat, even three seconds, lets the thinking part of your brain catch up to the talking part of your mouth. Calm is contagious. So is the opposite. Choose your strain wisely.
